MAKING INNOVATION REAL™ | PILOT
Organisational Diagnostic
See the system. Identify the gaps. Prioritise action.
The Making Innovation REAL™ Organisational Diagnostic provides a structured, evidence-informed assessment of how systematically an organisation manages innovation across nine interconnected dimensions.
Using 40 anchored questions, participant observations, and supporting organisational evidence, it produces an indicative capability and maturity profile, identifies system interdependencies and areas of accumulated innovation debt, and supports the prioritisation of practical action.
The Diagnostic is currently being validated through a limited number of invitation-only organisational pilots. During this stage, its maturity profile is indicative rather than certified or externally benchmarked. It does not provide organisational certification, accreditation, ISO 56001 conformity assessment, or a maturity designation issued or endorsed by a third-party certification body.

THE NINE-DIMENSION MODEL
What the Diagnostic Assesses
The diagnostic examines the organisational system that enables innovation—not simply the number of ideas generated, pilots completed, or projects undertaken.
Each dimension is assessed separately while recognising that weaknesses in one area can constrain performance across the others. Together, the nine dimensions provide a coherent view of capability, interdependencies, and where innovation debt may be accumulating.
The purpose is not merely to produce a generic maturity score. It is to establish an evidence-informed basis for leadership discussion, prioritisation, and action.

HOW IT WORKS
From organisational evidence to focused action
1 — Scope the assessment
Confirm the organisational context, assessment scope, participating groups, and evidence requirements.
2 — Gather perspectives
Participants complete 40 anchored questions and contribute observations and supporting evidence.
3 — Interpret the system
Responses are analysed across the nine dimensions to identify patterns, capability gaps, misalignment, and areas of accumulated innovation debt.
4 — Prioritise action
The findings are translated into practical priorities through reporting, leadership discussion, and a focused 90-day action plan.
DIAGNOSTIC OUTPUTS
What You Receive
The diagnostic is designed to move beyond scoring. It combines a clear view of the organisation’s current position with supporting evidence, interpretation, and prioritised action.
The result is a practical foundation for leadership discussion, capability investment, and systematic improvement.

WHO IT IS FOR
Designed for organisational decision-makers
The Organisational Diagnostic is intended for boards, executives, and leaders who need a clearer, evidence-informed view of the systems and capabilities supporting innovation.
It can be applied across government, statutory authorities, local government, universities and research organisations, corporations, industry bodies, and not-for-profit organisations.
Particularly valuable when
Innovation activity is fragmented or difficult to coordinate
Leaders lack a shared view of organisational capability
Investment decisions are not supported by sufficient evidence
Pilots and initiatives repeatedly fail to scale
Innovation depends heavily on individual champions or workarounds
Strategy, governance, resources, and delivery appear misaligned
The organisation needs a baseline before introducing a new programme or innovation-management system
START A CONVERSATION
Bring your innovation system into clearer view
The Organisational Diagnostic is currently available through scoped organisational engagements and pilots. Each engagement is configured around the organisation’s context, participants, evidence requirements, and decision needs.
A short initial conversation can establish whether the diagnostic is appropriate and define a practical way forward.
